Envy of the World
(Paul McDonald)
The Envy of the World
Johnny read it in a novel
Don’t you live your life too fast
And Johnny took everything he read seriously
Because you do not want a good idea to pass
She lived down the street from Johnny
And like the girl who lived next door
Well they both thought that Johnny wasn’t going to be
Successful at anything he ever tried
He’d probably go and waste his life
Johnny didn’t care, he wanted it that way
Just to be left alone so he could dream about the day
He’d be a million dollar movie star
Who raced his car and played guitar
He’d be the envy of the world
He’d have one of almost everything
And two of some of his favorite things
He’d even have himself a girl
And everyone would call him sir
And he would wish them very well
Johnny pledged to himself on a rainy day
He’d be a millionaire when he got out of school
He told his teacher and he told a couple friends who told him
‘Johnny, you can really act the fool’
Johnny didn’t care he wanted it that way
Just to be left alone so he could dream about the day
He’d be making deals on Ferris wheels
And riding while his fortune builds
He’d take vacations around the world
He’d have a house with some real stupid name
And people won’t view him the same
He’d even have himself a girl
And everyone would call him sir
And he would wish them very well
